Study in Lithuania

Study in Lithuania

Lithuania is the southernmost of the three Baltic States – and the largest and most populous of them. The country is predominantly flat, with a few low hills in the western uplands and eastern highlands. Forests cover just over 30 % of the country.
The most important sectors of Lithuania’s economy in 2014 were wholesale and retail trade, transport, accommodation and food services (32.7 %), industry (23.6 %) and public administration, defence, education, human health and social work activities (13.9 %).
Lithuania’s main export partners are Russia, Latvia and Poland while its main import partners are Russia, Germany and Poland.

The Republic of Lithuania is a European country on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Lithuania borders on the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Poland. Lithuania is the largest and most populous of the three Baltic States. Located in the heart of Europe, Lithuania is enjoying a rapid economic growth and development, making it an ideal location for studies abroad.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania, and also the country's largest city. The city possesses a rich cultural and historical heritage; the Old Town of Vilnius was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. However, the city has also developed into a modern international city. The New City Center holds the business district and impressive modern buildings such as the 129-metre tall Europa Tower.

Lithuanians speak Lithuanian, which belongs to the group of Indo-European languages.

Education in Lithuania
Higher education in Lithuania is available at Universities or Colleges. The higher education institutions follow the guidelines of the Bologna declaration. The Bologna process was initiated in 1999 when the Ministers of Education from 29 European countries signed the Bologna declaration in the Italian city of Bologna. The purpose of the process is to create educational standards for academic degrees and quality assurance, in order to make it easier for students to move from one European country to another and to improve the overall quality of European higher education. The system also incorporates aspects of the American higher education system and thus simplifies comparison. The Bologna System uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to measure the amount of higher education credits.
The Bologna system, and thus the higher education system of Belgium, follows the Bachelor/Master system:
Bachelor's degree
3 years (180 ECTS credits) towards a professional bachelor or an academic bachelor. Offers students core teaching in the chosen discipline, as well as a broad general education. The academic bachelor gives access to master's studies.
Master's degree
1 or 2 years (60 or 120 ECTS credits). Provides specialized content whilst allowing for further development of the scientific research process.
After obtaining a Master's degree, students can choose to pursue research projects leading to a Doctorate degree (PhD). PhD's are only awarded by Universities.
The Bologna System also uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to measure higher education credits.

Students apply directly to the educational institution of their choice. Applications for Bachelor education generally need to have completed secondary education. To be admitted to a Master program, the applicant generally must have completed a Bachelor Degree.
Foreign students from outside of the EU coming to Lithuania to study for one or two semesters need a residence permit. They can obtain one prior to departure at the Lithuanian embassy in their home country. You can find your closest embassy through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

Learning a foreign language is a demanding task but it can also be an achievement that broadens your horizons and exposes you to new opportunities and cultures.

In a competitive world, having knowledge of a foreign language other than English gives you an edge over many others who are only monolingual or those who are still stuck in the mindset that English is the only foreign language that one needs to learn.

With competency in foreign languages, one can find career in foreign ministries, embassies, international organizations’, airlines, diplomatic service, publishing industry etc.

There’s also a huge demand for foreign language specialists in BPO and IT sectors. Other options include working as a tour operator, translator, interpreter or teacher. As a case in point, the state-run Kendriya Vidyalas (KVs) are on a teacher-hiring spree to recruit German-speaking individuals in their thousands of schools in the country.

These courses were developed by the indian government and are in the public domain.

This site is dedicated to making these language courses freely available in an electronic format. This site is not affiliated in any way with any government entity; it is an independent, non-profit effort to foster the learning of worldwide languages. Courses here are made available through the private efforts of individuals who are donating their time and resources to provide quality materials for language learning.
